What To Expect?
What time does everything start?
People tend to start arriving 10:40 to have a cup of coffee and visit. We start with announcements around 10:45 and try to be in full swing by 10:50
Where do I park?
There are two options for parking.
For anyone needing wheelchair accessible parking/entrance, there is a parking lot off of Council St (use 1008 Council St, High Point, NC 27262 for your destination). Follow the sign at the High Point Friends School entrance directing you to the parking lot. The wheelchair ramp is at the beginning of the parking lot in a small parking circle.
Our other parking option is by typing in High Point Friends School into your GPS, and following the signs to the gymnasium. There are stairs and bleachers to walk down if you park in this area.
Do you have childcare? What about my older kids?
Immanuel has a nursery available for ages newborn-early 3’s and is open upon arrival for you to drop off your children for the entire worship time.
For ages 3K-5K, a “children’s church” is available with dismissal from worship after the offertory hymn. These children leave the sanctuary with the children’s church volunteers and get picked up by parents in that building after the service.
All other ages (6+) attend worship and remain with their families during the service.
What to expect on Sundays?
Our worship service follows a similar liturgy every week. We follow this style/liturgy for a few reasons…
-It helps us see who God is (as we read Scripture and sit under the preaching of God’s Word) and respond (in our prayers of confession and repentance, our tithes and offering, and prayers of thanksgiving)
-It connects us with believers from millennia before us (and after us). Throughout church history, it has been a common practice to have times of guided confession and thanksgiving, preaching of the word, singing of songs and hymns and spiritual songs, and celebrating the Lord’s Supper and Baptism. Our participating in a similar pattern connects us with the past generations of believers.
-It proclaims the Gospel. Throughout the service the Gospel will be presented through our reading, prayers, professions, testimony, and sacraments.
-It provides a roadmap for those new to a church service or visiting. We want people to know what to expect as they arrive and look through the bulletin. They will know what to expect, and be able to participate with everyone else just by following the liturgy.
We hope our worship shows a rawness/authenticity while valuing beauty in our music and leading. We want every person to be moved by the Gospel in such a way that it goes beyond intellectualism, behavior-modification or emotionalism. We believe the Gospel transforms us as we engage in worship together.
How long do your services last?
Our services generally last about an hour, with some time afterwards to hang out while kids play on the playground
What do I wear?
This is a common question! You will find a wide range of attire at IHP, from dress shoes to Chaco’s and everything in between. Our primary goal is for people to come hear the good news of the Gospel and be transformed.
Where do you meet?
We currently meet at High Point Friends School (800-A Quaker Lane) in the gymnasium. Look for our sign out front!
What kind of church is this?
We are a Presbyterian church, which means we are elder led. More specifically, we are a church in the Presbyterian Church in America, otherwise known as the PCA. Our basic tenets are that the Bible is God’s Word given to us without error (the technical term would be infallible and inerrant), we are all in need of redemption because of our sin, and that the only way we can be redeemed is by the person and work of Jesus, the Son of God. You can check out more about what we believe by looking at the PCA’s website or by reading through the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechism.
